The fol­low­ing Severe Weather Alert has been issued

Wind Advi­sory

A Wind Advi­sory has been issued by the National Weather Ser­vice located in Peachtree City, Georgia.

The wind advi­sory was announced at 1:45 p.m.February 24, 2010 and will be in effect from 1 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thurs­day for North Georgia.

A major cold front is mov­ing quickly into and through the Metro Atlanta and North Geor­gia area, bring­ing pow­er­ful winds. Extremely gusty winds up to 35 mph or stronger along with sus­tained winds of 15–25 mph will develop behind the mov­ing cold front. The northerly winds will con­tinue through Thurs­day morn­ing dimin­ish­ing Thurs­day after­noon for most of the North and Cen­tral Geor­gia regions.

Nec­es­sary pre­cau­tions should be imple­mented. The sus­tained and gusty winds can put power lines and trees in dan­ger of falling. Dri­ving may be dif­fi­cult as strong winds could top­ple tall vehi­cles, it’s advised to use extreme caution.
