Atlanta is situated in a humid subtropical climate and known for its hot humid summers, hence the name “hotlanta”. However, most of the year the Atlanta weather is very mild with spring perhaps the most beautiful with autumn following closely behind. Winters are only occasionally cold and temperatures can reach the 60’s and 70’s for short periods of time. Fall is very pleasant and can rival New England for its spectacular colors of foliage.

Atlanta Weather Forecast

Atlanta, Georgia, weather forecast

Precipitation is normally abundant as Atlanta averages over 50 inches of rain annually.  Our city averages just 3 inches of snow a year and significant accumulations are rare. Once every ten or so years ice storms can create havoc on Atlanta’s towering trees.  Spring can usher in locally severe thunderstorms as the warm air collides with cooler air masses. Although twisters are infrequent, an EF2 tornado touched down in Spring 2008 and damaged many buildings in Downtown Atlanta near Centennial Olympic Park. Latest Atlanta, Georgia, weather conditions and forecast

Atlanta sits on a plateau that’s more than 1000 feet above sea level making it the highest elevation of any major metropolitan area east of the Mississippi River. This also moderates its temperatures in the summer causing Atlanta to be a few degrees cooler than other cities in the Southeast.
