On December 25, 1929 the Atlanta Fox Theatre opened to great fanfare, a little more than a month after the Stock Market’s crash. It was a testament to the grand movie palaces that marked the era. Now the The Fox is a National Historic Landmark as well as one of the most famous Atlanta Landmarks. This grand theater has stood the test of time as evidenced by having survived bankruptcy, foreclosure, age, and the great depression.
An estimated 750,000 people visit the Fabulous Fox Theatre each year. Patrons have included movie stars, politicians, ambassadors and international dignitaries such as Prince Charles.
