Oktoberfest in Helen Ga is a six week celebration that begins September 12 and lasts to October 27, 2013. Oktoberfest 2013 in Helen GA will draw thousands of fun-loving people from Atlanta and around the world.
Every year the largest Oktoberfest in the South occurs in the Alpine replica village in Helen Georgia.
The festival is a huge North Georgia event featuring German beer, brats, bands and polka dancing.
The Oktoberfest Parade kicks off “America’s longest running Oktoberfest” at Noon on Sept. 12, 2013. Immediately following the parade is the traditional “Tapping of the Keg” at the Helen Festhalle.
Bands play Oompah-like music all day long and into the night and watch girls dance in their native costumes and guys in their Lederhosen. Meanwhile folks eat brats, drink beer, dance and enjoy the show and take part in Gemütlichkeit at the Festhalle. The Bavarian beer hall is located in the heart of Helen, Ga. and is party central for Oktoberfest. Polka Bands come from all over the United States and Europe to perform their happy and fun melodies.

Some great pictures of Oktoberfest and Helen GA in this YouTube Video:
Oktoberfest gets it’s roots from the Bavarian town of Munich, Germany. In the early 1800′s Munich hosted a royal wedding and a party that lasted two weeks! Every year after that a party was held in the streets there and the crowds kept on growing. Today, Helen Ga. carries on that German tradition.
The town of Helen flows with excitement this time of year. Alpine architecture is inherent throughout the Bavarian-style mountain village residing on the pristine waters of the upper Chattahoochee River. There’s also a charming market square where you can find all kinds of art and crafts.
Autumn is a great time to be visiting Oktoberfest in Helen Georgia. There are spectacular waterfalls to visit, many of them just of a few miles away. The majestic and rare twin waterfalls known as Anna Ruby Falls are just north of Helen, GA in Uncoi State Park.
Directly East of Helen are a couple of beautiful parks that are part of the Chattahoochee National Forest. Travel down a path a mile long just off Richard Russell Scenic Highway and you’ll find a gorgeous 150 waterfall called Duke Creek Falls. Just up the road is one of my personal favorites Raven Cliff Falls. The hiking path is a little more rigorous uphill about 2.5 miles. The trail follows the rambling and cascading waters of Dodd Creek. An impressive 80 foot cliff formation is split down the middle by Raven Cliff Falls.
