The city’s newest attraction is a giant Ferris Wheel named “SkyView Atlanta“. Soaring 200 feet above Atlanta’s Skyline, SkyView offers impressive views of Centennial Olympic Park and Downtown Atlanta.
The amusement park ride contains 42 fully heated and air-conditioned gondolas (buckets) holding 2-6 people each. Each passenger car features a special UV coating along with non-reflective glass, superb for picture taking and video recording.
The ride will go around 4 times and last approximately fifteen minutes. The new Atlanta Attraction is expected to draw anywhere from 1,000 to 3,000 passengers a day, but can handle up to 10,000 folks per day.
At its peak, SkyView Atlanta provides passengers with incredible views of Centennial Olympic Park and its fountains, the World of Coca-Cola, Georgia Aquarium, Stone Mountain, CNN Center, Kennesaw Mountain and more.
Construction of the Atlanta Ferris Wheel is currently underway with the pouring of 10,000 lbs of concrete. Thirty flat bed trucks will transport the parts into Atlanta in what will end of being a giant Lego-like project.
A pair of developers from St. Louis are responsible for bringing the 20 story Ferris Wheel to Atlanta. The wheel was moved to Pensacola from Paris about a year ago. The Atlanta Ferris Wheel will be equipped with a spectacular light show by the same company that does the light show for the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
According to City Councilman Kwanza Hall “I think it’s a winner for us. It’s something we’re not spending city money on. We’re not using city property. These are private developers who are making an investment in this part of town.”
Due to the discovery of a massive bank of electrical ducts feeding The Tabernacle, the anticipated opening has been been scheduled for July 16th, 2013.
