Atlanta Hawks sent Speedy Claxton and Acie Law to Golden State on Thursday for veteran shooter Jamal Crawford. Atlanta makes a great move here trading virtually nothing to get a big scoring guard while taking some heat off of Joe Johnson in the 4th quarter.
Acie Law never lived up to expectations although his minutes were limited. Bottom line here is he can’t shoot and was a poor pick in the draft. Four letters pretty well sum up Speedy Claxton’s time in Atlanta, can you say B-U-S-T !
A major benefit should Mike Bibby go elsewhere now that Atlanta has someone to fill his scoring shoes not to mention it will free up$8 million. The Hawks drafted Wake Forest star Jeff Teague who can really push the ball and also score. The Hawks now have some breathing room with free agency and can focus on resigning Flip Murray and ZaZa Pachulia.
Jamal Crawford averaged over 19 points, four assists and three rebounds a game last year. He’s a prolific scorer who can knock down the big shot as evidenced by being the 7th best 4th quarter scorer in the the league last season.
Atlanta Hawks still have some work to do like securing a true center and finding somebody to guard LeBron James. The rest of this summer will be interesting and let’s applaud General Manager Rick Sund for putting this deal together.
Bottom line, Atlanta is a fun, energetic town and the Hawk’s are a young and exciting team heading in the right direction …Lets Go Hawk’s!
