What is there to do in Atlanta Labor Day Weekend? We’re glad you asked. AtlantaGaToday has put together a list of the best things to do that will keep you busy for the last big holiday of the summer season. Surprisingly, there’s a lot of fun activities and events for the family to enjoy this Labor Day Weekend in Atlanta, Georgia.

We have made a recent upgrade to this list to include Stone Mountain Park. They have a Labor Day Weekend Celebration going on September 5-7 Saturday through Monday.

Stone Mountain Park brings back the Last Blast Of Summer Concert on Saturday featuring country music and national recording stars Lana Turner and Eden’s Edge. There will also be extended fireworks shows all three nights after the Lasershow Spectacular. For more information go to the events section.

PEPBOYS AUTO 500 AMS1) NASCAR Sprint Cup Series at Atlanta Motor Speedway
Gentleman, start your engines! That’s right NASCAR racing returns to Atlanta this Labor Day Weekend in a big way. For the first time ever the Pep Boys 500 will be held under the lights Sunday night. Couch potatos can watch the NASCAR Race on ESPN, but you’ll be missing out on all the fun.

There are two great events at Atlanta Motor Speedway on Saturday. The first is the NASCAR Sprint Cup Qualifying. The feature race after that is the Labor Day Weekend Degree V12 300.

2) Dragon*Con Parade in Downtown Atlanta Dragon-Con
This is one of the coolest if not bizarre events to be held this Labor Day Weekend in Atlanta. Dragon*Con specializes in science fiction and fantasy and takes place
Sept. 4 – Sept. 7 at the Hyatt in Downtown Atlanta. The Dragon*Con Parade starts at 10:00am Saturday morning in Woodruff Park.

3) U.S. 10K Classic, Family Festival and Kid’s Classic Races US10KCLASSIC
The U.S. 10K Classic is the culmination of fun activities taking place this Labor Day Weekend. The Family Festival gets underway Saturday 10:00am at Galleria Gardens next to the Galleria Complex. The free festival includes an artist’s market, a huge interactive kids’ area, free samples, fitness equipment and interactive displays.

Kid’s Classic Races consist of .5 (ages 6 and under) and 1 (ages 7-11) mile races commencing at 11:00am on Saturday Sept. 5, 2009. Labor Day features a plethora of races including the Men’s 100K Cycling Sprint, Women’s 10K Cycling Sprint and finishes with the U.S. 10K Classic. 4) Atlanta Braves verse Cincinnatti Reds at Turner Field atlabraves09
It’s a great time of year to take the family to see Chipper Jones, Brain McCann and the rest of the Atlanta Braves as they battle for a spot in the playoffs. While at Turner Field don’t forget to check out Scout’s Alley (located under the left field stands) where the kids can play interactive games. Another fun place to visit is the Atlanta Braves Museum and Hall of Fame located near aisle 134. Games scheduled between the Atlanta Braves and Cincinnatti Reds are Friday 7:35pm, Saturday 7:10pm, and Sunday 1:35pm.

 5) Art in the Park at Historic Marietta Square Art in the Park
Take a stroll back in time when Downtown Marietta was the heart and soul of the antebellum south. The Art in the Park festival in Marietta, Georgia consists of artists who travel from all over the United States to showcase their artistic endeavors. Artist’s works feature paintings, graphics, sculptures, jewelry, photography, pottery, and much more. Visit the extraordinary stores and boutiques that envelop Marietta Square or discover the wonderful architecture while walking through the shaded streets of five registered historic districts. Times: Sept. 5 – Sept. 7 10:00am – 5:00pm

All these events, races and festivals make a perfect way to spend the Labor Day weekend in Atlanta!
