Labor Day Weekend Fun in Atlanta

What is there to do in Atlanta Labor Day Week­end? We’re glad you asked. Atlanta­Ga­To­day has put together a list of the best things to do that will keep you busy for the last big hol­i­day of the sum­mer sea­son. Sur­pris­ingly, there’s a lot of fun activ­i­ties and events for the fam­ily to enjoy this Labor Day Week­end in Atlanta, Georgia.

We have made a recent upgrade to this list to include Stone Moun­tain Park. They have a Labor Day Week­end Cel­e­bra­tion going on Sep­tem­ber 5–7 Sat­ur­day through Monday.

Stone Moun­tain Park brings back the Last Blast Of Sum­mer Con­cert on Sat­ur­day fea­tur­ing coun­try music and national record­ing stars Lana Turner and Eden’s Edge. There will also be extended fire­works shows all three nights after the Laser­show Spec­tac­u­lar. For more infor­ma­tion go to the events section.

PEPBOYS AUTO 500 AMS1) NASCAR Sprint Cup Series at Atlanta Motor Speed­way
Gen­tle­man, start your engines! That’s right NASCAR rac­ing returns to Atlanta this Labor Day Week­end in a big way. For the first time ever the Pep Boys 500 will be held under the lights Sun­day night. Couch potatos can watch the NASCAR Race on ESPN, but you’ll be miss­ing out on all the fun.

There are two great events at Atlanta Motor Speed­way on Sat­ur­day. The first is the NASCAR Sprint Cup Qual­i­fy­ing. The fea­ture race after that is the Labor Day Week­end Degree V12 300.

2) Dragon*Con Parade in Down­town Atlanta Dragon-Con
This is one of the coolest if not bizarre events to be held this Labor Day Week­end in Atlanta. Dragon*Con spe­cial­izes in sci­ence fic­tion and fan­tasy and takes place
Sept. 4 — Sept. 7 at the Hyatt in Down­town Atlanta. The Dragon*Con Parade starts at 10:00am Sat­ur­day morn­ing in Woodruff Park.

3) U.S. 10K Clas­sic, Fam­ily Fes­ti­val and Kid’s Clas­sic Races US10KCLASSIC
The U.S. 10K Clas­sic is the cul­mi­na­tion of fun activ­i­ties tak­ing place this Labor Day Week­end. The Fam­ily Fes­ti­val gets under­way Sat­ur­day 10:00am at Gal­le­ria Gar­dens next to the Gal­le­ria Com­plex. The free fes­ti­val includes an artist’s mar­ket, a huge inter­ac­tive kids’ area, free sam­ples, fit­ness equip­ment and inter­ac­tive displays.

Kid’s Clas­sic Races con­sist of .5 (ages 6 and under) and 1 (ages 7–11) mile races com­menc­ing at 11:00am on Sat­ur­day Sept. 5, 2009. Labor Day fea­tures a plethora of races includ­ing the Men’s 100K Cycling Sprint, Women’s 10K Cycling Sprint and fin­ishes with the U.S. 10K Clas­sic. 4) Atlanta Braves verse Cincin­natti Reds at Turner Field atlabraves09
It’s a great time of year to take the fam­ily to see Chip­per Jones, Brain McCann and the rest of the Atlanta Braves as they bat­tle for a spot in the play­offs. While at Turner Field don’t for­get to check out Scout’s Alley (located under the left field stands) where the kids can play inter­ac­tive games. Another fun place to visit is the Atlanta Braves Museum and Hall of Fame located near aisle 134. Games sched­uled between the Atlanta Braves and Cincin­natti Reds are Fri­day 7:35pm, Sat­ur­day 7:10pm, and Sun­day 1:35pm.

 5) Art in the Park at His­toric Mari­etta Square Art in the Park
Take a stroll back in time when Down­town Mari­etta was the heart and soul of the ante­bel­lum south. The Art in the Park fes­ti­val in Mari­etta, Geor­gia con­sists of artists who travel from all over the United States to show­case their artis­tic endeav­ors. Artist’s works fea­ture paint­ings, graph­ics, sculp­tures, jew­elry, pho­tog­ra­phy, pot­tery, and much more. Visit the extra­or­di­nary stores and bou­tiques that envelop Mari­etta Square or dis­cover the won­der­ful archi­tec­ture while walk­ing through the shaded streets of five reg­is­tered his­toric dis­tricts. Times: Sept. 5 — Sept. 7 10:00am — 5:00pm

All these events, races and fes­ti­vals make a per­fect way to spend the Labor Day week­end in Atlanta!
