Meet the Holidays Programming, and Dr. of Fun Science Workshops
Imagine It! The Children’s Museum of Atlanta offers children unique, hands-on
learning opportunities and sparks imagination through the power of play. Below is a schedule of feature exhibit
information and special programming taking place at Imagine It! in December.
Feature Exhibit
Curious George™: Let’s Get Curious!
Now through January 24, 2010
With curiosity and inquiry as their guides, children explore familiar buildings and locales from the Curious
George books and television series on PBS KIDS in Curious George™: Let’s Get Curious! The exhibit
introduces young children to Curious George’s world and lead visitors on a fun, meaningful interactive math,
science and engineering-based adventure. Activities invite children to learn like George – through direct
experience and problem solving.

Fridays at 11:00 AM & 1:00 PM (December 21-23 & 28-31); Thursday, December 24 at 11:00 AM;

In this 20-minute mini-musical, children meet a curious lad called Curious Chris (C.C.) who goes on
adventures just like Curious George. He invites you to explore your world and get curious! Children join
C.C., his Uncle Victor, and D.J. Soundsalicious as the Curiositer transports everyone to Africa to learn about
math using African drum beats, to France to learn how baking is a chemical reaction, and to outer space to
learn about the planets.

Dr. of Fun: Electricity and Light
Saturday, December 5 at 11:00 AM & 1:00 PM
Come and explore electricity with the Dr. of Fun. Children will find out what electricity is and what it does.
Receive a red nose and learn how to use electricity to make it light up.
Meet the Holidays: Christmas
Saturday, December 5 at 12:00 PM
Enjoy Christmas songs and stories from all around the world with Drew Laney from Turtle Radio in Nashville,
Tennessee. Jump on a magic traveling quilt and take a musical adventure through Canada, Russia, Italy and
South America.

Sunday, December 6 at 11:00 AM
Hanging ornaments on a tree is a Christmas tradition. Children will make stocking ornaments with the
Imaginators.
Read It!: Christmas
Sunday, December 6 at 3:00 PM
Join an Imaginator and enjoy “Claude the Dog: A Christmas Story” by Dick Gackenbach. This book about
sharing with others teaches children about the spirit of giving. Children are encouraged to delve into the world
of books during Read It!
Meet the Holidays: Día de la Virgen de Guadalupe
Saturday, December 12 at 12:00 PM
Join the Imaginators as they read the story of the “The Lady of the Guadalupe” by Tomie dePaola. Children will
learn about this Mexican holiday through a story about a poor Indian named Juan Diego who was visited by the
Lady of Guadalupe in 1531.

Sunday, December 13 at 11:00 AM
Join the Imaginators to celebrate this Catholic holiday and make tissue paper flowers in honor of the Virgin of
Guadalupe. Children learn that people travel to Mexico City, where the virgin first appeared to the Mexican
people, to bring bouquets of flowers and other presents to her.

Come celebrate Hanukkah with storyteller Barry Stewart-Mann. He’ll share both traditional and contemporary
tales full of dreidels, menorahs and traditions to help kids learn about the Jewish Festival of Lights.

The dreidel game is a Hanukkah tradition played with a four-sided spinning top. Children will join the
Imaginators to make a dreidel of their own.

Join an Imaginator and enjoy “Herschel and the Hanukkah Goblins” by Eric A. Kimmel. In this adaptation of the
ancient Hanukkah story, Herschel the Ostropol overcomes obstacles to save Hanukkah. Children are
encouraged to delve into the world of books during Read It!
Meet the Holidays: Kwanzaa
Saturday, December 26 at 12:00 PM
Join us for a Kwanzaa celebration with special guest storyteller Mama Koku. Kids will learn about this week-long
holiday that honors African heritage.

Join the Imaginators as you make colorful Kwanzaa placemats. The colors of the placemats represent
traditional Kwanzaa colors: black, symbolizing the African-American people; red, representing struggle; and
green, which symbolizes hope for a better future.

Join an Imaginator and enjoy “It’s Kwanzaa Time” by Linda and Clay Goss. Children will learn about this weeklong
holiday that honors African heritage. Children are encouraged to delve into the world of books during Read

Ongoing Events
The Science Wondershop with Brian “Dr. Science” Williams
Sundays, October 11 – December 13 at 11:30 AM & 12:30 PM
The Science Wondershop offers children the opportunity to explore topics in science by participating in exciting
hands-on activities. The program is designed for adult-child interaction to encourage imagination, curiosity, and
an interest in the exploration of our world. Limited space available. Maximum of 20 children. First-come, firstserved.
Target Free Second Tuesdays
Second Tuesday of Every Month
Now through December 2009 from 1:00 PM-7:00 PM
Through a sponsorship by Target, admission is free for all visitors who come during these special hours. Free
tickets will be available at the Museum starting at 1:00 PM during each Target Free Second Tuesday, and the
Museum will close at 7:00 PM. The free tickets are issued on a first come first served basis as Museum
capacity permits. Once the Museum reaches capacity, tickets are only issued as capacity in the Museum
becomes available. Reservations are not accepted.

Read It!
Every Sunday at 3:00 PM (December Read It! features stories about holidays from different cultures)
Children are encouraged to delve into the world of books during Read It! This half-hour story time, sponsored by
McKenna Long & Aldridge LLP, is devoted to fostering literacy and encouraging young children to embrace the
magic of books. Children join a special guest or an Imaginator as a colorful, creative storyteller extraordinaire
who arrives with bookmarks and an armful of stories.
Imagine It!
The Children’s Museum of Atlanta is a smart place to play and a non-profit organization offering a
family-friendly space filled with interactive, educational exhibits and programming for children ages eight and
under. The Museum’s mission is to spark imagination and inspire discovery and learning for all children through
the power of play. The Museum’s four permanent learning zones consist of bright, creative, hands-on exhibits
that are designed to give children an opportunity to learn through play. Imagine It! also offers parties,
memberships, field trips, and facility rentals. Museum hours: Monday through Friday 10:00 AM-4:00 PM and
Saturday and Sunday 10:00 AM-5:00 PM. Admission is $12.50 plus tax for adults and children ages 2
and above; children under 2 are free. Imagine It! is located at 275 Centennial Olympic Park Drive NW.
The Museum is closed Christmas Day (close early at 1:00 PM on Christmas Eve).
