Atlanta Botanical Garden is a beautiful oasis next to Piedmont Park in Midtown Atlanta. If you
are searching for something different to do in Atlanta, the botanical garden offers a variety exhibitions and events situated amidst a lush environment of plants, flowers, trees and gardens.
There are some events and exhibits that go year round while others rotate. Concerts in the Garden is an annual event that takes place on the Great Lawn. This years concert series features top performers including the Indigo Girls and Mary Chapin Carpenter.
One of the more popular venues is the Fuqua Orchid Center. It houses the largest permanent collection of orchids in the nation. Other popular destinations include the Japanese Garden, the rose garden and the Dorothy Chapman Fuqua Conservatory. The rain forest exhibit inside the conservatory contains turtles, birds and poison dart frogs.

Fun activities for kids include the Critter Crawl, Scavenger Hunt, and my favorite the Carnivorous Plant Hunt.
Smithgall Woodall Garden is a 168 acre satellite garden that was donated to the Atlanta Botanical Garden in 2000. This gorgeous piece of land contains a lake, many native plants and will be used to increase the gardens ongoing conservation and restoration program. The Smithgall Woodall Garden is open to the public only on limited dates.
There are many activities and programs geared towards fun and education for kids as well as families to enjoy. The Atlanta Botanical Garden is also host to many social events and successful art exhibitions.
Another favorite Atlanta Event in October is the annual Scarecrows in the Garden. Individuals, organizations and businesses all partake in the making of scarecrows that are displayed all over the park along with delightful fall decorations. Get feisty Thursday evenings in October at the Fest-of-Ale, featuring a fine selection of brews emphasizing the Halloween theme. Bring your flashlight and view the scarecrows while drinking some spirits and listening to live music. The final event for the month long Scarecrows in the Garden venue is the Goblins in the Garden. This is a children’s costume party where the kids are welcome to dress in their favorite Halloween costume and have fun in the garden. Children’s activities include story time, Ride-On-The-Train, and pony rides.
